If you ingest a sharp piece of gl what can happen?

I accidentally ingested a piece of gl and I could feel it as it was ping through my body. Within 72 hours I was in the hospital diagnosed with a problem to my appendix and had to have surgery. Has anybody out there ever been served gl in their food and had a similar reaction?
