Why do evangelical Christians not identify themselves?
I have a websters new world dictionary published in the 1950"s. It defines evangelical as : "1- In, of or according to the gospel's, Or the teachings of the new testament. 2- Of those protestant churches such as the methodest and baptist, that emphasize salvation by faith in the atonement of Jesus, and reject the efficiency of the sacraments and good works alone; also called orthodox. 3-Of the low church party in the church of England ." This is the given definition . And since the goal of true evangelical churches is simply to reach the lost with the good news of salvation through belief in the finished work of Jesus Christ, I see nothing shamefull in claiming to be an evangelical . It is those false teachers that use their position as a high ranking or well televised celebrity preacher to get to our money for their own financial gain , that give evangelicals a bad reputation. Anyway I hope this has been helpfull ,God bless you and thanks for the great question.
