What are some -ing verbs that describe black and white?

for black I was thinking CONSUMING, SMOTHERING, and FADING. and for white I was thinking ENLIGHTENING, ILLUMINATING, and I'm not sure what else. I'm just not sure if those are the best choices, so I'd like some suggestions.
