Need help re: snake repellent...?

I have my granddaughter coming to visit me in georgia for the summer. We do have alots of woods and a creek, and so far I have seen one little snake by the creek. Although I am not going to let her wonder off and I do see the neighbors kids playing I am wanting to make it safe for her to have fun. Is there any truth behind using moth around the house and yard to make snakes stay away? If not anyone have any ideas? I have never seen alot of snakes here..but considerig I saw one by the creek and this is Georgia...can someone help me?
